Caprivi Mutoya Lodge

About Us

Situated in a small riverine forest, Caprivi Mutoya Lodge & Campsite lies on the banks of a tranquil backwater lake of the Zambezi River, approximately 24km east of Katima Mulilo.  For eight months of the year (mid-May to February) the lodge backwater becomes a separate lake as it is cut off from the main Zambezi River when the floods recede.  The lodge is accessible all year round by tar roads.

Mutoya is the local name for “Waterberry Tree”, owing to the presence of these trees found all along the lakeshore.  Surrounding the lodge are ancient Jackalberry Trees (African Ebony) as well as numerous other indigenous trees, which are home to squirrels, monkeys, a large variety of birds, and other small species.  Due to the quiet waters of the hippo pools, there is also a profusion of water birds, which Caprivi is renowned for, a paradise for ticking twitchers.

Facilities on offer include a bar and restaurant, a small lounge with DSTV, books & games, and access to limited WIFI. The restaurant is surrounded by a large wooden deck with a fire pit and stunning lake views.   There is also a small swimming pool for those wishing to cool off on sweltering hot days.

The lodge is powered by the national grid (220V/50HZ), solar, and gas. Electric wall sockets are for 3 round pronged plugs.
